0-2 year old yard renovation update

We are so excited to see the progress of our yard!

We are adding a new sandpit, and backyard play area - also expanding the yard to where the castle used to be :)

We are hoping our outside time and our new yard will be up and running and back to normal in the next week.

Bug Hotel!

Thank you so much to Olive's Dad Brett, for making us our very own Bug Hotel!

When you have some time, you should come out into the Kindy Yard and see if you can find any bugs yourself! - We have seen lots of ants, leaf bugs, butterflies and stick insects!

Netherby Kindergarten Information

Netherby Kindergarten
Bruce Webb Crescent
Urrbrae (off Waite Road)

Netherby Kindergarten is a DECD (Department for Education and Child
Development) preschool providing a
play-based program which focuses on each individual child’s learning. The
program is planned using Belonging, Being, Becoming, The Early Years Learning
Framework for Australia.

Building strong relationships with and between the children and their families builds children’s confidence and sense of belonging.
Children are seen as competent and capable, and the curriculum is developed with the children to ensure that their questions and wonderings are explored, and their interests followed.
The children are challenged to think deeply and to reflect on their learning.

The Preschool Literacy and Numeracy
Indicators are used to determine each child’s knowledge and to plan and build on their skills and understanding.
Literacy and numeracy experiences are provided throughout each day through play experiences and also at group times. At Netherby Kindergarten children are organised in small groups to maximize their engagement in learning.

Excursions and incursions include
performances at the kindergarten and Grainger Studios by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, as well as attending the Patch Theatre.
These experiences provide opportunities for rich literacy learning as the children prepare for the event and then reflect on what they recalled from the performance. Parents are welcome to share these experiences.

The outdoor play areas provides changing and challenging opportunities tor children to
explore nature, to climb and be active, to grow vegetables, and to develop projects together. The play area is being further developed with support from Nature Play SA to increase the opportunities for exploration and physically activity.

Sustainable practices influence the activities provided, the materials used and ensure that the children are involved in caring for the
environment, recycling, as well as growing
vegetables and cooking healthy food.

Each year a Family Art Show is held.
Community links are explored and we have been able to use the artistic expertise
within our kindergarten families to offer the children a unique experience each year. Parents have introduced the children to making pots and medallions from porcelain clay, fractal art and mixed media on canvas. The children also produce a canvas painting as well as a craypas and wash picture. The process is documented and photographs and stories from the children are displayed with the art.

A bush garden has been planted by the kindergarten community and this provides opportunities for children to observe native birds, insects, as well as the occasional
koala, possum, lizard and native frog. Each August and November a Tawny Frogmouth nests in a tree by the fence and the children watch the nest and look for the new fledglings.

The Half Day fee schedule is as follows:
AM Session: 6:30AM – 12:30PM
PM Session: 12:30Pm – 6:30PM

We would like to take this opportunity to explain our fee increase to you.
Our suppliers have also been increasing their own prices. These products directly impact the children’s care within the centre for products such as food, nappies, cleaning supplies and toys/experiences.
At Hawthorn Child Care Centre we endeavour to offer high quality care. We are always looking at our practises and constantly improving them further, and we welcome parent feedback to do this.
At the moment 80 per cent of our staff has their Diplomas in Children Services and 3 qualified or actively studying their Bachelor of Early Childhood Education. The other staffs are currently up skilling to improve their qualifications to provide better educational outcomes for your children.
In line with the new government ratios changes (1-10 is now going to 1-5), we are aiming to phase in the new ratios of educator to children towards the end of the year. This will provide exceptional quality care to children across our centre.
We have always been very fortunate to find high quality staff and retain them which in the industry is becoming harder and harder.
We would also like to give our families advanced notice that we will be reassessing the fee structure again for July 2016. Because of the Government changes to the childcare sector our running costs are increasing, however we did not want to raise our costs with one large increase. The final figure has yet to be determined but you will be given notice well before the end of the year of any changes.
After doing our own research we have discovered that we are still one of the cheaper Centre’s in the area and we endeavour to remain so.
We thank you for your support you have given our centre.

Remembrance Day 2015

Next Tuesday the 11th of November is Remembrance Day.

If you would like to purchase poppies - they are available in the Kindy Room or come and see Pamela in the office.

Animals Anonymous!

We are a mobile team of wildlife demonstrators and environmental educators offering shows and presentations with a diverse range of tame native animals. We aim to inspire and assist folks of all ages to love, conserve and enjoy the awesome natural world that surrounds us and encourage the use of local native plants around our homes, schools, work places.

Today we had Animals Anonymous come in to talk to our 2-5 year old classrooms! We had such a good time learning about all the different animals that they brought in. We loved hearing all about it - if you would like more information, please head to their website:

http://www.animalsanonymous.com.au/

We especially loved the sugar glider and Peter the Python!

Brave Emily wasn't scared at all - and showed all the Kindy Kids how to hold Peter!

Sam is a little scared of snakes, so she did very well to have a little pat of Peter the Python!
